Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Round Valley Learning Academy! Below you'll find answers to some common questions about our school, philosophy, and programs. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

At RVLA, we embrace a learner-led, experience-based approach to education. Instead of following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, students at RVLA take ownership of their learning, set personal goals, and engage in hands-on projects. Our multi-age classrooms foster collaboration, mentorship, and peer learning, creating an environment where students of all ages grow together. With a focus on entrepreneurship, outdoor exploration, and faith-based values, RVLA prepares students to become confident, independent, and passionate learners who are ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Learner-led education puts students in the driver’s seat of their own learning. At RVLA, students set their own learning goals, track their progress, and pursue their interests through a variety of platforms and projects. We believe that students learn best when they are active participants in their education, rather than passive recipients of information. Our guides provide mentorship and support, helping students develop critical thinking skills, self-discipline, and confidence as they explore subjects at their own pace.

RVLA serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Our classrooms, or "studios," are divided into three main groups:

  • Wonder Studio (K-2): Foundational learning in literacy, numeracy, and creativity, with an emphasis on exploration and curiosity.
  • Explore Studio (Grades 3-5): Students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through more complex academic work and hands-on projects.
  • Adventure Studio (Grades 6-8): Focused on preparing students for real-world challenges, including entrepreneurial ventures, leadership, and independence.

While we group students by age, progression is based on individual learning rather than age, so students move forward when they are ready.

We don’t follow a traditional, rigid curriculum. Instead, RVLA incorporates personalized learning through flexible, student-driven programs. For subjects like math and language arts, students use tools like Lexia for Language Arts and Khan Academy, DreamBox, and Synthsys for math. Our focus is on mastery, rather than meeting preset benchmarks. We also offer project-based learning that ties academic knowledge to real-world experiences, such as outdoor activities, entrepreneurship, and community involvement.

Parents are vital partners in the RVLA experience. We expect parents to be actively involved in their child’s education, whether that means volunteering, supporting learning at home, or helping guide their child’s educational journey. Parent involvement fosters a strong, supportive community and ensures that students are receiving the guidance they need to succeed. Parents are encouraged to attend workshops, participate in school events, and support the entrepreneurial projects their children are working on.

At RVLA, we believe in fostering a strong sense of community through engaging and enriching events that extend beyond the classroom. These events are open to everyone and provide valuable learning opportunities for both students and families. Some of our annual events include:

  • Children's Christmas Entrepreneurship Market: This event allows students to showcase and sell their own entrepreneurial creations. It’s a fun, hands-on way for kids to learn about business, marketing, and money management while celebrating the holiday season with family and friends.
  • Hunter's Safety Program: RVLA offers a comprehensive Hunter's Safety course to help students gain essential outdoor skills and prepare for safe, responsible hunting. This program is open to all interested community members, providing an excellent opportunity to learn alongside others who share a love for the outdoors.
  • Clubs and Workshops: Throughout the year, RVLA hosts various clubs and workshops focused on building practical skills, such as fishing, outdoor survival, arts and crafts, and more. These clubs are a great way for students to explore new interests, make friends, and learn in a supportive, hands-on environment.

These community-wide events are designed to bring our school and local families together, enriching our shared learning experiences and creating lasting memories.

The annual tuition for RVLA is $5,400 per student. We offer discounts for families who participate as volunteer parent guides, helping to support our community-driven learning environment.

While scholarships are available, they are currently fully allocated for this year. We encourage families to apply early for next year’s scholarship opportunities.

Additionally, external funding options are available through programs like OpenEd Utah, as well as the Utah-Fits-All scholarships, providing additional opportunities for financial support.

To apply for admission, please fill out our application form and submit it along with any required documentation. Once we’ve reviewed your application, we will reach out to schedule a meeting to discuss your child’s fit for our school and how we can best support their learning journey. We encourage families to visit our campus, meet our team, and get a feel for our unique learning environment.

At RVLA, we focus on positive reinforcement and fostering a strong sense of responsibility. We believe in guiding students through challenges with empathy and understanding, helping them develop self-regulation and problem-solving skills. Our behavior policy is centered around respect, kindness, and collaboration. Students are encouraged to communicate openly, resolve conflicts peacefully, and take ownership of their actions. When necessary, we work closely with families to ensure that any behavioral challenges are addressed in a constructive manner.

We recognize that every child is unique, and we strive to meet the individual needs of all our students. Our learner-led model allows for flexibility in how each child learns, ensuring that students who need additional support can receive the guidance and resources they require. We work with families to develop tailored strategies and provide accommodations as needed. If your child has specific learning needs, we encourage you to reach out to discuss how we can best support them.

At Round Valley Learning Academy (RVLA), we strive to provide a supportive and enriching environment for all students. However, as a small school, we are not equipped to accommodate children with special needs requiring an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or similar services. Our resources and staff are focused on a learner-led model that may not provide the specialized support these students need to thrive.

There are many ways to get involved at RVLA! We encourage families to volunteer, participate in school events, and contribute to school projects. We also value community input and invite parents to become part of our school’s growth through feedback and ideas. Whether you're helping with classroom activities, guiding a project, or offering your expertise, your involvement is crucial to making RVLA a thriving, collaborative community.

If you have any additional questions or would like to learn more about RVLA, please feel free to contact us or call us at 801-787-5576. We look forward to hearing from you!
